Who we are:
Vision: The TSN was formed to help implement the vision outlined in the Transhumanist Declaration by educating and engaging student bodies, faculties and surrounding communities of institutions of higher learning and research. We raise public awareness and facilitate discussion of emerging technologies, defend the right of individuals in free and democratic societies to adopt technologies that expand human capacities, and help people anticipate and guide a future shaped by emerging technologies to serve the interests of all.
Mission: TSN is committed to educating people about the dramatic potential of new scientific knowledge and technological competence to improve the human condition. We are committed to engaging academic communities and the broader public in dialog about the meaning, promises and dangers of the changes, as well as exploration of courses of action which take everyone’s interests into account. We are committed to building forums for discussion, cooperative relationships amongst constituencies with compatible perspectives, and local infrastructure to better disseminate transhumanist ideas. In pursuing these aims we value public safety and personal liberty, rational analysis and compassionate regard.
Major contributions of student clubs to the transhumanist effort can range from bringing relevant experts to campus to speak on their work to involvement in service projects that incorporate technologies to meet the needs of a target community. The first step in achieving such goals is the establishment of a campus group, which the TSN leadership will assist you in accomplishing.
Campus clubs are often established by a single determined person who advertises the idea and gathers friends and new aquaintances into a formal campus organization. Try to interest a group of founding members through friend networks, sympathetic professors and by posting (eye-catching, informative) flyers with your contact info and the URL for the WTA homepage (www.transhumanism.org).
Individual advocacy such as “letters to the editor” also makes a difference - please inform us of all such efforts! Consult the TSN Student Advocate Guide for advice on how you can advance the transhumanist movement and pursue your career goals without the benefit of a transhumanist group on your campus.
WTA chapters can be instrumental in raising interest in transhumanism on nearby campuses and assisting students in organizing their own TSN chapters or affiliating existing clubs with the TSN. Contact us for ideas.
Join us in working toward a brighter future!
